Sukma, May 23: A Naxalite was gunned down during a fierce exchange of fire with security forces in the dense forests of Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, officials confirmed on Friday.

The encounter began late Thursday evening when a joint team of security personnel launched an anti-Naxal operation in the Kistaram police station limits.

The operation was carried out by a coordinated force comprising the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force, and the CRPF’s elite 210th CoBRA battalion. Gunfire continued to be reported intermittently from the area, suggesting ongoing resistance.

Authorities stated that one Naxalite was killed in the operation, but added that more information would be shared as the situation developed.

Following the incident, the search operation in the area has been intensified. Security forces are making sure that no other Naxalites are hiding near the encounter site.
