Alipurduar, May 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched a fierce attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, accusing it of deepening West Bengal’s crises through corruption, appeasement politics, and negligence towards development.

Speaking at a public rally in Alipurduar, he said the people of the state are desperate for change and are now looking toward the BJP’s development-driven governance model.

BJP’s Development Model vs. TMC’s Failures
Modi asserted that West Bengal needs to be liberated from the “politics of violence, riots, appeasement and corruption.” He criticised the TMC for creating multiple crises in the state, citing issues such as lawlessness, the growing insecurity of women, youth unemployment, loss of trust in the system, and poor governance that deprives the needy of their rights.
“The youth and poor suffer the most under this corrupt regime,” he said, adding that trust in state institutions has eroded due to TMC’s misrule.

Education System in Ruins
Modi came down heavily on the state’s education crisis, referring specifically to the teacher recruitment scam that rocked the state. “The TMC government has destroyed the future of thousands of aspirants, leaving families broken and children helpless,” he said.

He alleged that schools face an acute shortage of teachers, putting the academic future of lakhs of students at risk. “Despite all this, they still refuse to accept their mistakes and instead blame the judiciary,” he added.
Violence and Appeasement Politics
Calling out the recent incidents in Murshidabad and Malda, the PM accused the state government of allowing lawlessness to flourish under the guise of appeasement.

“The people’s homes were set on fire while the police stood by as silent spectators. Courts have to intervene even for basic justice in Bengal,” he said, adding, “The people are crying out—‘Bengal mein machi cheekh pukaar, nahi chahiye nirmam sarkar.’”
Neglect of Marginalised Communities
Modi alleged that TMC harbours hostility towards tribal, Dalit, backward and poor communities. He recalled how TMC opposed the NDA’s decision to nominate a tribal woman for President. “This reflects their mindset,” he said.
He further criticised the state government for not implementing the Ayushman Bharat health scheme or housing schemes properly, alleging that poor families are being forced to pay bribes to avail basic benefits.

TMC More Focused on Politics Than Governance
The Prime Minister also pointed out that West Bengal’s government was absent from the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting in Delhi. “TMC is only interested in politics round the clock,” he said.
Modi added that 16 major infrastructure projects funded by the Centre have been stalled by the state government. “This clearly shows that TMC has no interest in West Bengal’s growth or the country’s progress,” he said.
