Ranchi, Dec 2: The station in-charge of Sukhdev Nagar police station, Ashok Kumar, and the station’s Munshi (clerk), Parshuram, have been suspended with immediate effect.

The action was taken after serious allegations surfaced against the police following a young man’s suicide just before his wedding.

SSP Rakesh Ranjan suspended Station In-charge Ashok Kumar on the instructions of Ranchi IG Manoj Kaushik. The SSP also ordered the suspension of Munshi (clerk) Parshuram.

The incident dates back to November 29, when the festive atmosphere ahead of a wedding turned into mourning on Kishorganj Road No. 5 under Sukhdev Nagar police station limits.

The deceased was identified as Nitesh Pandey, an employee of Indian Railways, who was set to get married on Saturday. However, before the wedding, Nitesh died by suicide in his room on Kishorganj Road No. 5.

Following his death, the family levelled serious allegations against Sukhdev Nagar police.

Nitesh’s brother, Neeraj Pandey, said that Nitesh’s tilak ceremony was held on November 26, but around the same time, a woman named Priyanka filed a case accusing him of sexual exploitation.

The family alleged that without any proper investigation, Nitesh was taken into custody by the police.
