Patna, May 31: The country continues to grapple with severe heatwaves. Several states including Bihar and Jharkhand are experiencing scorching temperatures and rainfall is scarce. While the heatwave is causing discomfort to everyone, it is proving fatal for many.
On Thursday, 59 people succumbed to the heat in various districts of Bihar alone. Aurangabad recorded the highest casualties with 15 deaths. Additionally, more than 20 people are admitted to different hospitals.
Apart from this, 11 deaths were reported in Patna, 10 in Bhojpur, eight in Rohtas, five in Kaimur, four in Gaya, two in Muzaffarpur, and one each in Begusarai, Barbigha, Jamui, and Saran.
Prior to this, on Wednesday, eight people had died due to the heatwave. Consequently, Bihar has witnessed the death of 67 people in two days.

Heat wave will continue till June 2
The weather department has expressed concerns about severe heatwaves and loo (hot winds) prevailing in several districts of Bihar even today, Friday. They have urged people to take precautions.
According to the weather department, the heatwave is expected to continue until June 2nd. After that, it is expected to gradually decrease. As per the department, on Friday, loo is also expected in Jharkhand, Odisha, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jammu region, and Himachal Pradesh.
Monsoon likely to arrive in Bihar around June 15
The monsoon reached the South Andaman Sea on May 19, a day before its scheduled time. Since then, the monsoon continued to get favourable conditions. Due to this, the monsoon knocked in Kerala on Thursday, two days before its scheduled time. Its time to reach Kerala was June 1.
After the monsoon knocked in Kerala two days before, it is being estimated that it may reach Bihar on June 15 or a day or two before the scheduled time.
