Jamshedpur, June 2: Tata Steel Special Economic Zone’s Gopalpur Industrial Park (GIP) has joined the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Transitioning Industrial Clusters Initiative, a prestigious global program focused on accelerating industrial decarbonisation while supporting economic growth and job creation.

The initiative, developed in partnership with Accenture and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), brings together industrial clusters and stakeholders committed to building sustainable, low-carbon ecosystems.

Located in Odisha’s Ganjam district, GIP is emerging as a key hub for green hydrogen, green ammonia, and renewable energy equipment manufacturing. The park’s vision aligns closely with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to make India a global leader in green fuel production, utilization, and exports.

Manikanta Naik, Managing Director, Tata Steel Special Economic Zone Limited, said, “GIP is proud to join this transformative WEF initiative. Our focus on green hydrogen and renewable energy demonstrates our deep commitment to sustainable industrial development. We’re leveraging innovative partnerships and global best practices to contribute meaningfully to India’s clean energy future.”

To support this vision, 25% of GIP’s available land has been earmarked for green hydrogen/ammonia and renewable energy projects. The park has signed land agreements with several leading green hydrogen players, targeting over 2 million tonnes per annum of green ammonia production and attracting investments of over Rs 27,000 crores.

This could enable GIP to contribute nearly 10% of India’s green hydrogen/ammonia production target by 2030.

Key infrastructure developments include:

* A 2.5 km long, 60 m wide utility corridor connecting GIP to Gopalpur Port for seamless export of green ammonia

* A planned desalination plant for sustainable, round-the-clock industrial water supply

* Efforts to ensure green power transmission from western India

* A Common Effluent Treatment Plant for environmentally safe wastewater disposal

With multiple new green projects in the pipeline, GIP is set to become a driving force in India’s clean energy revolution and a model for sustainable industrial growth.
