New Delhi, May 30: The Central Government on Thursday issued a notification for the appointment of three new judges to the Supreme Court. The move follows President Droupadi Murmu’s approval on Wednesday of the Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendations.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal announced the appointments, stating that the swearing-in of the new judges is expected to take place on Friday morning, administered by Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai.

The newly appointed judges include Justice NV Anjaria, Justice Vijay Bishnoi, and Justice A.S. Chandurkar. With these additions, the Supreme Court now has its full sanctioned strength of 34 judges.

Justice Anjaria, currently Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, hails from the Gujarat High Court. Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, originally served in the Rajasthan High Court. Justice A.S. Chandurkar is a judge of the Bombay High Court.
According to sources, the appointment files reached the President on Wednesday and received prompt approval.

The Collegium that recommended their elevation comprises the five senior-most judges of the Supreme Court—CJI B.R. Gavai, and Justices Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, J.K. Maheshwari, and B.V. Nagarathna.
