Jamshedpur, June 11: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi, has issued a statewide thunderstorm and lightning alert for the next several days, even as conditions become favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into Jharkhand within the next four days.

According to the latest weather bulletin, Daltonganj recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 43.2°C during the past 24 hours, making it the hottest place in Jharkhand.

Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 36.9°C, while Jamshedpur registered 36.6°C. Bokaro and Chaibasa reported maximum temperatures of 38.5°C and 35.8°C, respectively.

The minimum temperatures recorded were 29.0°C in Daltonganj, 27.8°C in Jamshedpur, 26.5°C in Ranchi, 26.4°C in Bokaro and 25.6°C in Chaibasa.

Thunderstorm and Lightning Warning Issued

The IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 50–60 kmph on June 11 and 12 at isolated places over north-eastern and adjoining central districts, including Dhanbad, Bokaro, Koderma, Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Khunti and Ramgarh.

The remaining parts of the state are also likely to experience thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph.

Heavy Rainfall Likely in Several Districts

On June 12, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in Dumka, Jamtara, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Giridih, Bokaro, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts.

The heavy rain warning will continue on June 13 for Dumka, Jamtara, Deoghar, Sahibganj, Pakur and Godda, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely across Jharkhand.

For June 14, the weather department has predicted thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph at isolated places throughout the state.

Rainfall Activity Increases Across State

Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms was reported at isolated places across Jharkhand during the past 24 hours.

Dumka recorded the highest rainfall at 37.2 mm, while Khunti AWS received 11 mm of rainfall during the same period.

Monsoon Progress Expected to Bring Relief

With monsoon currents strengthening over eastern India, weather officials said Jharkhand is likely to witness increased rainfall activity and a gradual respite from the prevailing heat in the coming days.

The forecast also indicates that conditions are becoming increasingly favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance further into the state, potentially bringing widespread rainfall and cooler temperatures.
