Dehradun, Jan 20: In a key decision on Monday, the Uttarakhand Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, approved the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) manual after a comprehensive review by the Legislative Department.
Chief Minister Dhami expressed confidence in the government’s commitment to its pledges stating that the implementation dates for the UCC will be announced shortly and said the move fulfils a major promise made by the BJP government during the 2022 elections.

The UCC Bill, initially introduced during a special session of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly on February 6, was passed by a significant majority the following day.

Subsequently, the Bill received Presidential assent from Droupadi Murmu on March 13, positioning Uttarakhand as a potential frontrunner in implementing the UCC in India.
