Who is LK Advani?

Advani was born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi, Pakistan. He has been the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party since its founding in 1980, holding the position for the longest.

He served as the Home Minister initially and later as the Deputy Prime Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinet (1999–2004), capping a nearly three-decade years of service in parliament.

Advani’s reputation is built on his strong morals, remarkable intelligence, and unrelenting commitment to the vision of an India that is powerful and prosperous.

LK Advani dedicated the latter part of the 1980s and the early 1990s to the solitary goal of transforming the BJP into a major national political force.

The 1989 General Election demonstrated the fruits of his labours. The Party achieved an astounding 86 seats, a far cry from its 1984 total of just two. The Party gained 121 seats in 1992 and 161 seats in 1996, marking a turning point in Indian democracy in the 1996 elections. The BJP emerged as the single largest party in the Lok Sabha, deposing the Congress for the first time since gaining independence.
