Dhanbad, May 2: A Centre of Excellence (CoE) has been set up at IIT ISM Dhanbad with the financial support of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MOTA) of the Government of India to empower tribal students in Jharkhand.

The coordinator and principal investigator of the project Prof. Rashmi Singh, Assistant Professor of the Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering, will design skill-development programmes for tribals of Jharkhand to boost their employment, income, livelihood, and economic well-being.

Centre grants Rs 1.92 cr

The Centre has granted Rs 1.92 crore for this centre which will impart basic and advanced level information technology and computer training to tribals in Jharkhand.

“The objective behind the creation of the centre is in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the inclusion of tribal communities in the societal mainstream,” said Prof Singh.

The centre will also create linkages with the various industries in Jharkhand, like BCCL, CCL, Tata Steel, Sail, NTPC, JSPL, Adani Power, and Tata Power, to provide employment opportunities to the trained tribal students.

Eklavya Model Residential Schools

“The first phase of the capacity-building programme will start with the training of tribal students from grades 10 to 12 at the Eklavya Model Residential Schools of Jharkhand, and the second phase will include tribal students from Ashram schools and government schools,” said Prof. Singh.

The team of the Centre of Excellence under Prof. Singh, has already visited different Eklavya Model Residential schools in Jharkhand last week, including Eklavya Model Residential School in Salagdih Ranchi on April 25, Eklavya Model Residential School in Kathjoria, Dumka, and Eklavya Model Residential School in Sundarparhari Gooda on April 27.
