New Delhi, June 19: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody period of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal till July 3 in the money laundering case related to the excise policy case/ liquor scam.

Aam Aadmi Party head Kejriwal was presented in the court today through video conference on the expiry of his judicial custody period. During this, Judge Nyay Bindu extended his judicial custody period till July 3.

Apart from Kejriwal, the judicial custody of another accused in the case, Vinod Chauhan, was also extended till July 3.

Vinod Chauhan faces probe in Rs 100 crore money trail

The court inquired about the necessity for extending judicial custody. The ED’s counsel responded, stating that Vinod Chauhan received Rs 25 crore from K Kavitha’s Personal Assistant via Abhishek Boinpally for the Goa election.

The Investigation Officer informed the court during the hearing that the Rs 25 crore is part of a larger Rs 100 crore money trail, with Rs 45 crore having been traced so far. In response, the Court remarked that this indicates that 60 per cent remains yet to be traced.

The IO stated that Vinod Chauhan who was arrested in May is the subject of an investigation. By the end of this month, a prosecution complaint will be filed against him.

On June 5 Court had extended Kejriwal’s judicial custody until June 19

During the hearing in the court, the lawyer appearing on behalf of Kejriwal opposed the plea of ​​Enforcement Directorate to extend his judicial custody and said that there is no basis for extending his custody.

Earlier on June 5, Kejriwal’s judicial custody was extended till June 19 by Rouse Avenue Court. Kejriwal was arrested in March.

The Supreme Court had granted him interim bail for three weeks to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections that concluded on June 1. After the voting ended, he surrendered in Tihar Jail on June 2.
