PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, August 31:  Thundershowers and lightning are expected at a few isolated places in northern and central Jharkhand today, predicted IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

Weathermen ruled out the possibility of heavy rain and said light to moderate rain ranging between 5mm and 30 mm is expected in isolated areas.

The low-pressure area over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha moved west-northwestwards and became a well-marked low-pressure area over the same region yesterday.

It is likely to move further west-northwestwards towards north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts, intensify into a depression over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level was passing  through the centre of deep depression over the Kutch coast and adjoining areas of Pakistan, Northeast Arabian Sea, Malegaon, Brahmpuri, Jagdalpur, Kalingapatnam and thence southeastwards to well marked low pressure area over west central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal.

Jharkhand’s rain deficit currently stands at 10 per cent. The state has so far received 717 mm against a normal of 792 mm rain.
