Dhanbad, Sept 11: The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation (CPIML) will determine its strategy for a poll alliance in the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections during a two-day state committee meeting in Giridih on September 24-25.

This decision follows the CPI-ML’s first two-day Central Committee meeting, held in Maithon, Dhanbad, on September 10-11. The meeting marked the first gathering after the merger of the Marxist Coordination Committee (MCC) into the CPI-ML.

General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya stated that the CPI-ML Jharkhand committee will decide its election platform during the Giridih meeting.

Bhattacharya also confirmed that the CPIML will contest major seats in the Jharkhand election under the banner of the INDI Alliance and expressed optimism for the alliance’s success.

Regarding seat-sharing conflicts, particularly in Dhanbad where the former MCC (now CPIML) and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) have clashed in past elections, Bhattacharya said that these issues would be resolved in due course.

Five MCC leaders inducted into CPI-ML Central Committee

At the two-day meeting, five former MCC leaders, including ex-MLA Anand Mahto, Executive President and former MLA Arup Chatterjee, General Secretary Haldar Mahto, senior leader Nitai Mahto, and RD Majhi were inducted into the CPI-ML Central Committee.

General Secretary Bhattacharya also announced that Anand Mahto and Haldar Mahto had been appointed as members of the party’s Politburo.

The MCC, a 53-year-old regional party from North Chhotanagpur founded by former MP AK Roy, officially merged with the CPI-ML on September 9 in Dhanbad. The CPIML Central Committee endorsed this merger during its two-day meeting.

CPIML’s demands and position on national issues

General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya also called on the Supreme Court to intervene in the issue of mob lynching and take immediate action to curb this heinous crime.

The CPIML demanded a ban on cow protection groups, linking them to terrorism, and called for stringent laws to ensure the safety of women in the country.

In addition, Bhattacharya urged the government to amend the Waqf Bill after consulting the Muslim community, highlighting the need for inclusive legislation.
