Daltonganj, Oct 24: Better health care in the government hospitals is resisted by the caucus of the staff and private nursing home operators in Palamu.
It is all for commission in terms of money. Cesarean operation in a community health center is an unheard thing in Jharkhand but here in Palamu, Chainpur CHC has taken a lead. It is conducting C-section at regular intervals if and when patients come needing surgical procedures for delivery.
Vested interests want to destabilise C-section
Now, vested interests are out to destabilise the cesarean operation facility. They want this service to be shelved down here.
Unscrupulous health personnel in cahoots with the private nursing homes are making hecting bid for disbanding cesarean operation facility in the community health center at Chainpur, alleged the civil surgeon of Palamu Dr Anil Kumar.
Civil surgeon said, “Chainpur community health center is the first among 10 such centres in Palamu where we have started cesarean operation facility since this September 29.” It is getting popular among the poor, said the civil surgeon.

Patients save Rs 30,000 to 40,000
“We have till October 21 conducted the cesarean operation of four women very successfully. All the four patients are of the extremely poor economic classes,” said the civil surgeon.
Dr Anil Kumar said “Here it is all free. A patient here saves minimum of 30,000 to 40,000 rupees which in a private nursing home, it is forcibly extracted from the patient or the attendant,” added the civil surgeon.
Sahiyas, CHC officials undermine CHC services at behest of private nursing homes
“However I am constrained to say that some unscrupulous health workers like Sahiyas, CHC officials here are throwing spanner to it. It is at the behest of the private nursing homes since their business is most affected,” charged the civil surgeon.
The modus operandi is simple. First, the patient is tempted into some private nursing home. Here Sahiya plays a very dirty role. She takes the patient out of the CHC for some private nursing home.
Again the patient is made to believe that her operation and care at the CHC Chainpur will be poor while in the private nursing home, she will be under medical observation 24X7.
The civil surgeon said, “We have received inputs in this regard. We are trying to delve deeper into it. At first sight, it is all beyond any doubt that vested interests are working overtime for shutting down the cesarean operation facility in the CHC Chainpur”.
Private nursing homes thrive on maternity services mostly. Here there is abundance of money.
Even a normal delivery in a private nursing home is a 10,000 rupees business. As for the cesarean operation, it’s fourfold high.

Restraint from external forces, says CHC in-charge
This correspondent spoke to the medical officer in charge of the CHC Chainpur Dr Chaman Kr Bhardwaj.
According to Dr Chaman, “We have arranged anaesthetist and surgeon. There is no problem from their side.”
“It’s external forces that try to restrain us from further expanding our medical services that we do deliver to the people of the region,” added this medical officer in charge.
This correspondent spoke to the October 21 cesarean operation conducted patient Reena Kumari, 25, of Cherabar village who was in her bed in this CHC Chainpur.
Reena Kumari had a word of praise for the doctors here. She said, “No one has asked for money from her.” She looked fragile but happy to have given birth to a male child.
Plans for future enhancements
On being asked that the nearest blood bank is 5 km away from this CHC and if any urgency of blood comes in then how quick or fast it is managed to which civil surgeon said, “We have an ambulance here. Blood is arranged at the shortest of the time.”
An OT personnel requesting for anonymity said, “We have a single drum auto clave. Hence sterilisation of instruments take too much of a time. We need double drum auto clave.”
Civil surgeon conceding to this complaint said “We have single drum auto clave. It really takes time for sterilisation. We will buy double drum auto clave. We will keep improving our facilities.”
Civil surgeon has warned such vested interests to keep at bay from such dirty tricks. He said we are planning to start ortho surgery soon here in this CHC in the larger interest of the people of this region.
