Dhanbad, Dec 26: A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday morning when family members of a deceased mother and her infant ransacked Sadhana Hospital, located in the Goal Building of Dhanbad, under the Saraidhela police station’s jurisdiction.
The grieving family accused the attending doctor of medical negligence, which they believe led to the deaths of both the mother and her newborn.
Timeline of Events
Sajia Khatoon (30) was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday at 4 PM for delivery. Later that evening, the infant was declared dead due to intra-uterine death. Tragically, the mother passed away the next morning at 6:30 AM.
Protests at the Hospital
Upon hearing the news of the deaths, family members, along with other residents from Latani Berwatand in Govindpur, gathered at the hospital in large numbers to protest. Tensions escalated, prompting the hospital’s doctor and nursing staff to flee the premises in fear of the angry crowd.

Police from the Saraidhela station arrived on the scene and managed to restore calm. They assured the family that legal action would be taken against the doctor and hospital management for their alleged negligence.
Allegations of Medical Negligence
The grieving family claimed that Khatoon had been under the hospital’s care for five months before the incident. They explained that four days before her hospitalization, she had slipped and fallen in the washroom of her home. Following the fall, she was brought to the hospital, where the doctor reassured the family that both mother and baby were stable.
On Wednesday afternoon, Khatoon began complaining of severe pain and was admitted to Sadhana Hospital. After conducting an ultrasound, the doctor informed the family that the baby had died in the womb and an abortion would be necessary to safeguard the mother’s health. Tragically, Khatoon died the following morning at 6:30 AM.
The family alleged that the attending female doctor neglected the patient by leaving her in the care of the nursing staff overnight, which they believe contributed to her death.
Police have promised to investigate the matter and take appropriate legal action.
