Islamabad, Jan 17: A Pakistan court today convicted former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the 190 million pounds al-Qadir Trust case, sentencing them to 14 and seven years in prison, respectively.

The verdict was delivered by Judge Nasir Javed Rana in a makeshift court at Adila Jail.

In December 2023, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed charges against Khan (72), Bibi (50), and six others, accusing them of embezzling 190 million pounds (PRs50 billion) from the national funds.

However, Khan and Bibi are the only ones prosecuted, as the other defendants, including a property tycoon, are outside the country.

The case centres on the misuse of PRs50 billion returned to Pakistan by the UK’s National Crime Agency as part of a settlement with the tycoon.

The case involves allegations that funds returned by the UK’s National Crime Agency were misused. These funds were supposed to benefit the national treasury but were allegedly diverted to benefit a businessman who helped establish a university for Khan and Bibi.

Bibi, as a trustee of Al-Qadir Trust, is accused of misusing the funds to acquire land for the university in Jhelum.
