Daltonganj, March 7: Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Nilamber Pitamber University Dr Prof Dinesh Kumar Singh called upon the Governor cum Chancellor of the universities of state Santosh Kumar Gangwar in the Raj Bhavan today.

This was the first meeting of the VC with the Governor after he assumed charge of the Nilamber Pitamber University in Daltonganj on March 3.

“The meeting was very inspiring to me. It was very fruitful. I felt proud of having a very meaningful and thoughtful conversation with the Chancellor,” reiterated the VC.

“The Chancellor has asked me to pull out all stops for an all-around development and growth of the Nilamber Pitamber University”, said the VC.

“The Chancellor has further directed me to feel free in the day-to-day administration of the university without having any kind of pressure,” added the VC.

“I got a chance and opportunity to meet the Additional Chief Secretary to Governor Nitin Madan Kulkarni and Officer on Special Duty (Judicial) Mukulesh Chandra Narain. These two were kind enough to hear me patiently,” said the VC.

Controversy surrounding University building takeover

Nilamber Pitamber University is in muddy waters following a controversy surrounding the takeover of the academic building of the university in Daltonganj on January 24.

Two things occurred in January. First on January 24 the academic building was taken over. Just a week ahead, on January 31, the in-charge VC Bal Kishun Munda, who was the divisional commissioner of Palamu, retired.

No one is coming forward to explain the time gap between the takeover and the retirement of the in-charge VC.

Two of the officers of the university are to face music. The controversy is most about the procedure for the takeover when the officials taking over the academic building of the university from the Jharkhand State Building Construction Corporation Limited didn’t apply the common yardstick of evaluating and assessing the utilities in the academic building like water facility etc.

Takeover despite no water facility

Sources said the academic building was taken over in 2025 the same way its administrative building was taken over in 2023, where the issue remains the same and common like no independent water facility in the 2023 taken over administrative building and again no water facility in 2025 taken over of the academic building.

Sources said there is a set format for the taking over which is followed in a ritual manner. No one felt the need to make the format more pragmatic.

However, this 2025 takeover of the academic building, the issue of utility services like water triggered ‘a trail of blaze’ as the matter was straightway taken down to the Raj Bhavan by the second in command of the state government Radha Krishna Kishore, the Finance Minister having portfolio of the parliamentary affairs too.

Raj Bhavan probe into the issue

Sources said the Finance Minister met the Governor, who, taking immediate cognizance of the issue, ordered for a probe.

OSD (J) to Governor Mukulesh Chandra Narain and Additional Secretary A K Satyajeet reached Nilamber Pitamber University and conducted the probe.

Sources said it’s a tightrope walk for the VC Dr Dinesh Kumar Singh, who is to put the ‘derailed university on the tracks.’

VC Dr Singh said, “The university seeks cooperation of one and all. All measures will be taken for the academic pursuits of the students here.”
