Jamshedpur, April 16: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jamshedpur Local Centre, is all set to foster scientific creativity and innovation through the 20th National Creativity Olympiad (NCO 2025), scheduled for April 19–20, 2025.
Addressing a press meet, Dr S K Narang, Organising Member; N Rajesh Kumar, Organising Chairman; NCO 2025 , Satish Kr Tiwary, Chairman, IEI JLC; S D Bhattacharjee, Organising Member; said that the Olympiad is meticulously designed to nurture critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and innovation among school students through a rich blend of applied sciences, engineering concepts, and hands-on experimentation.
The format uniquely integrates disciplines such as Physics, Mathematics, General Knowledge, and Arts and Crafts, while emphasizing practical know-how in engineering and technological innovation.

Teams to Compete in Analytical and Technical Challenges
“The competition is bifurcated into two distinct domains: The direct domain features a two-stage, hands-on contest with participation from more than 24 elite teams, shortlisted through a rigorous elimination process. Teams from Jamshedpur schools were selected locally, while institutions from across India—including cities like Kanpur, Patna, Aligarh, Bhubaneswar, Tirupati, Guwahati, Ranchi, Durgapur, and even remote regions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand—have nominated their top-performing students,” said N Rajesh Kumar.
The first session of the competition will be an Analytical Challenge, adopting a “Shark Tank” model. Students will be tasked with devising innovative solutions to real-world problems using materials provided on-site.
The post-lunch session will delve deeper into technical problem-solving, requiring students to apply advanced concepts of hydraulics, pneumatics, and physics up to grade 12 level to engineer practical solutions—highlighting their dexterity in both conceptual knowledge and craftsmanship.
All tools, materials, and instructions will be provided at the venue to ensure a level playing field. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams, and all participants will receive certificates of participation or merit, as appropriate.

Thematic Challenge to Address Climate Concerns
The open domain segment, exclusive to local schools, calls upon participants to present working models aligned with this year’s theme: “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience”—a highly relevant and timely issue in the context of climate change and sustainable development.
This thematic challenge asks students to examine the intricate linkages between land degradation, desertification, and water scarcity, and to propose innovative, sustainable solutions. Submissions will be evaluated for originality, feasibility, and scientific rigor. The event is divided into Junior (Std. VI–VIII) and Senior (Std. IX–XII) categories, with trophies and commendations awarded to the most outstanding models.
The inaugural ceremony on April 19 at 9:15 AM will be graced by Pragya Singh, Principal of DAV Public School, Bistupur. The valedictory and prize distribution function on April 20 at 6:30 PM at SNTI Auditorium, Bistupur, will feature Jaya S. Panda, Chief Learning & Development Officer, Tata Steel Limited, as the Chief Guest.
