Daltonganj, May 5: In a thoughtful initiative, students of Class 9 from CM School of Excellence and KG Girls High School visited the Town Police Station on Monday, marking a step towards bridging the emotional distance between young minds and the police force.
The visit was part of an outreach effort introduced by Superintendent of Police Reeshma Ramesan, who, during her Sunday crime review meeting, had asked officers in charge to organise visits for school children to local police stations. The goal: to replace fear and misconception with understanding and trust.
The visiting students were warmly welcomed by Officer-in-Charge Deobrat Poddar and his team, an experience that deeply moved many of them.

The common refrain of the youngsters is that the police is the second name of a harasser. Police are a torturer, they believe in their hearts of hearts. They hate most the traffic police for asking and imposing a fine for not wearing a helmet or doing triple riding.
Many girls said they have left their scooty for fear of the traffic police and attend coaching centres and classes walking down.
The interaction aimed to humanise the police in the eyes of the students and introduce them to the real, day-to-day workings of a police station—far from the intimidating image they often carry.
Their curiosity was the lock-ups. There are two lock-ups in the town police station. One for men and the other for women. The girls knew life in the lock-ups would be tougher.
The visit of students to the police station was to popularise the benefits of dial 112. Dial 112 offers help in distress. Girls were asked to use it most legitimately and needfully.

This correspondent spoke to many girls who had visited the town police station Monday who told “The visit has changed our idea and feeling of the cops. They work hard and in tough conditions. We need to trust them and they should also give us a lending hand.”
The girls were told of love through computers, Facebook or Instagram is a disaster. It ruins both career and fortun. So beware of it.
How thana works day and night, the girls were told in their own language. The girls felt themselves to be like any VVIP today in the Daltonganj police station.
Town police too felt their interactive session with the school girls was more than an event.
