Jharkhand News: Anup Mishra wins 1st prize in photography on Biodiversity Day

Jamshedpur, May 22: Renowned photojournalist Anup Mishra was awarded first prize in the ‘Photography Competition – FAUNA’ held as part of the International Biodiversity Day celebrations. The event, organized by the Jharkhand State Biodiversity Board, took place at Palash Auditorium in Doranda, Ranchi.

Chief Secretary of Jharkhand, Alka Tiwari, honoured Mishra by presenting him with a citation and a cash incentive of ₹5,000 in recognition of his photographic excellence and contribution to biodiversity awareness.

The program was graced by several dignitaries including Abu Bakar Siddiqui, Secretary of the Department of Forest, Environment and Climate Change, and Shailaja Singh, Chairperson of the Biodiversity Board.

Addressing the audience, the speakers emphasized the need for sustainable development and ecological balance, calling for public participation in the conservation of biodiversity.

The photography competition, organized by the Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department, saw participation from photographers across the state, each capturing various aspects of Jharkhand’s diverse flora and fauna. Anup Mishra’s winning entry stood out for its composition, subject, and the powerful message it conveyed about wildlife preservation.

Speaking after the event, Mishra expressed gratitude for the honor and stressed the role of visual storytelling in conservation. “Photography has the power to connect people emotionally to nature. I feel humbled that my work could contribute to such a vital cause,” he said.

International Biodiversity Day is observed annually on May 22 to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. This year’s celebration in Jharkhand aimed to inspire individuals, especially the youth, to contribute actively towards environmental protection.
