Jamshedpur, June 17: A new chapter in innovation and hands-on learning began at St. John’s High School, Jugsalai, Jamshedpur on Tuesday morning with the inauguration of its state-of-the-art Tinkering Lab.

The facility, designed to nurture scientific temper, creativity, and problem-solving skills among students, was formally inaugurated by Ajitesh Monga, Plant Head of Tata Cummins Pvt. Ltd, and Sr. Hilda, Principal of Little Flower School.

The program commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. The occasion was graced by the presence of Principal Ashu Tiwary, who extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and presented a detailed PowerPoint presentation introducing the school and highlighting the vision behind the Tinkering Lab.

“The objective of setting up this lab is to foster creativity, curiosity, and imagination in young minds,” she said, adding, “It will also promote critical 21st-century skills such as computational thinking, design mindset, adaptive learning, ideation, and problem-solving.”

The Tinkering Lab has been established with support from Tata Cummins Pvt. Ltd., a gesture that underscores the company’s commitment to community development and educational excellence.

In his inaugural address,  Ajitesh Monga emphasized the need to equip students with real-world tools and experiences. “We must offer the best opportunities to young learners so they can explore, question, and innovate,” he said. He also extended an open invitation to students for guided tours and visits to the Tata Cummins plant, giving them exposure to industrial processes and advanced technologies.

The lab is being led by two experienced instructors,  Ashwin Nath and  Hemant Yadav, whose expertise will guide students through various projects involving robotics, electronics, programming, and more. Their mentorship is expected to play a key role in nurturing a spirit of innovation and experimentation among learners.

The students of St. John’s High School have expressed great enthusiasm about the new facility. Many are looking forward to engaging in hands-on tinkering activities and exploring scientific concepts in an experiential, practical way.

“This is something we’ve been waiting for,” said one of the students. “It’s exciting to work with real tools and build things ourselves. It feels like the beginning of something big,” said another.
