Parag Jain appointed new RAW chief

Parag Jain, a 1989-batch IPS officer from the Punjab cadre, has been appointed as the new chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India’s intelligence agency. The central government has approved his appointment.

He will succeed the current RAW chief, Ravi Sinha, whose term ends on June 30 this year. Jain is set to assume office on July 1, 2025, for a tenure of two years.

Ravi Sinha, a senior IPS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre, was appointed RAW chief on June 30, 2023, replacing then-chief Samant Kumar Goel.

Parag Jain is known to have served with RAW for a significant period and previously worked closely with former chief Samant Goel. He is currently heading the Pakistan desk.

According to sources, Jain played a key role in crucial missions such as the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and the Balakot airstrikes.

Under “Operation Sindoor,” he was instrumental in identifying terrorist camps in Pakistan. Parag Jain has also held positions as SSP of Chandigarh and DIG of Ludhiana. During the height of militancy in Punjab, he was actively involved in operations in Bhatinda, Mansa, and Hoshiarpur.
