Jamshedpur, August 23: Sona Devi University organized its Induction-cum-Orientation Programme – 2025 with grandeur at the Michael John Auditorium here in Jamshedpur on Friday.

The event was inaugurated with a lamp-lighting ceremony by chief guest Abhijit A. Nanoti, managing director, JCAPCPL Jamshedpur, along with University Founder and Chancellor Prabhakar Singh, Vice-Chancellor J.P. Mishra, Registrar Gulab Singh Azad, and Trust Member Nirmala Shukla.

The programme began with a Sanskrit invocation by Nikita, assistant professor, followed by the University introduction by Anusua Roy and Uday Chandravanshi, the compere.

An audiovisual presentation showcased the university’s journey, while students presented cultural performances including Ganesh Vandana, classical and folk dances, devotional songs, and patriotic skits.

Annual Report and Magazine Release

Registrar Gulab Singh Azad presented the Annual Report 2025, highlighting the university’s achievements, future plans, and academic progress.

The University’s annual magazine “Badte Kadam 2025” was unveiled under his editorship, with contributions from  Neelmani Kumar and the editorial team.

Launch of New Awards and Recognitions

The university announced the institution of the “S.D. Singh Smriti Seva Samman”, to be awarded annually for outstanding contributions in education, social service, health, industry, and tourism.

This year, eminent personalities including H.B. Singh Arsi (Education),  Vijay Kumar Singh (Social Service),  Amitabh Chatterjee (Health),  A.K. Srivastava (Industry), and  Amit Roy (Tourism & Commerce) were honoured.

Another notable addition was the introduction of the “Radheshyam Agarwal Smriti Hindi Samman”, to encourage excellence in Hindi studies.

The first recipients were Vipasha Nayak (B.Tech), Pragya Kumari (B.Tech), and Megha Das (B.Pharm) along with Khushi (B.Tech), who received cash awards.

Cultural and Academic Highlights

Students from various schools of the university showcased performances including folk dances, devotional renditions, plays on social themes, and musical numbers.

An audiovisual message from Prof. Amlan Chakraborty, Advisor and Director, A.K. Choudhury School of Information & Technology, University of Calcutta, was also screened.

Research scholar Prasenjit Sarkar presented his study on biodiversity in Ghatsila, while pharmacy student Sandeep Singh Dev delivered a talk on Rashmirathi.

Dignitaries and Guests

Several dignitaries including Prabhat Sharma (Former Head, Corporate Communications, Tata Steel), Aditya Gaur (Hotel Taj Vivanta), Rakeshwar Pandey (Trade Union Leader), Advocate Rajesh Shukla (Vice President, District Bar Council), R. Ravi Prasad (JCAPCPL Workers’ Union President), R.K. Singh (Tata Motors Workers’ Union), Vijay Yadav (Timken Workers’ Union), and mediamen Braj Bhushan and Jay Prakash Rai graced the occasion.

Chief Guest Nanoti praised the students for choosing Jamshedpur for higher education and encouraged them to focus on positivity, skill development, and responsible use of technology.

Eminent sociologist Ravindra Nath Choubey stressed on the importance of self-knowledge in education, while Editor of UditVani Udit Agarwal highlighted the significance of Hindi promotion and skill-based learning.

Tributes and Conclusion

The programme concluded with a solemn tribute to Late Dishom Guru Shibu Soren and Late Education Minister Ramdas Soren, with two minutes of silence observed. The event ended with the National Anthem.

Founder of the university and Chancellor Prabhakar Singh emphasized that the university’s mission is to provide students with a fear-free, conducive environment for holistic growth through academics, skills, and extracurricular activities.

Regular classes will commence from August 28.
