Daltonganj, Nov 5: Mystery shrouds the death of an under-10-year-old elephant.

The carcass of this elephant, a male one, was found near Lukum Kharn village under the Betla National Park of the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) on Wednesday.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), North Division of the PTR, P K Jena, has confirmed the death of this juvenile elephant.

3 veterinary doctors conducted the post-mortem of this juvenile elephant.

Post-mortem findings will alone shed light on the cause or factor behind the death.

PTR management is awaiting the post-mortem report, which is expected to be available late in the evening.

Sources said the juvenile elephant was found dead not far from the human habitation.

Elephant-human conflict is being probed too, as it’s paddy time and elephants have a habit of either destroying the paddy crop or eating it most voraciously.

Sources said electric shock or gunshot too will be ruled out by the post-mortem.

There is another remote possibility of this juvenile elephant getting flattened by any adult or robust elephant as a matter of internal fighting.
