Daltonganj, April 7: A private facility, Kalyan Hospital in Daltonganj, registered under the Clinical Establishment Act, has started a cardiac outpatient department (OPD) to provide care for patients with congenital heart disease.

Located near J S College, the hospital will run the Heart OPD every Tuesday, offering free treatment for patients with congenital cardiac conditions, commonly known as a “hole in the heart.”

Free Treatment for Congenital Heart Patients

Doctors Dhananjay Kumar and Rajeev Nayan said the initiative aims to support patients suffering from structural heart problems.

Dr Rajeev Nayan said the OPD became functional on the first Tuesday itself, with four patients from across the Palamu commissionerate visiting for consultation.

Linked to ‘Masoom Dharkan’ Initiative

Dr Dhananjay Kumar, a noted cardiac interventionist, said congenital heart disease treatment is being carried out under the ‘Masoom Dharkan’ programme, which focuses on recovery and repair of children with heart defects.

He added that under this initiative, Manipal Hospital in Ranchi is building trust by providing specialised care. For children undergoing treatment for a hole in the heart, either parent is provided free accommodation and food.

The initiative is expected to improve access to cardiac healthcare in Daltonganj and the Palamu region, especially for patients who cannot afford specialised treatment.
