Daltonganj, April 12: The ‘School Ruar’ (School Chalo) campaign was launched in Palamu district’s Mahadalit Mushar hamlets of Khairahi and Chiyanki Pahar by the elementary education department in collaboration with the Jharkhand Rajya Dehari Mazdoor Union.
District Superintendent of Education (DSE) Sandeep Kumar said Deputy Commissioner Sameera S personally enrolled 15 Mushar children at Khairahi Nav Prathamik School. She entered their names and details in the admission register herself, setting a rare example of direct administrative involvement in school enrolment.
The term ‘School Ruar,’ derived from Santali, refers to both bringing dropout children back to school and enrolling those who have never attended.

On-the-spot enrolment, support and expansion to other villages
School bags were distributed to the newly enrolled children on the spot, while other government benefits will be provided later. At Chiyanki Pahar government school, two more Mushar children were enrolled under the supervision of the Deputy Commissioner.
Rajiv Kumar, State General Secretary of the Jharkhand Rajya Dehari Mazdoor Union, praised the initiative and said the administration’s involvement would strengthen efforts to improve education among the Mushar community.

Migration, Aadhaar and bank access remain key challenges
Officials said seasonal migration during the Mahua fruit collection period affects school attendance, as many families move or involve children in the work. Enrolment of such children will be ensured once they return.
Administrative sources said special camps have been organised for Aadhaar enrolment, with many Mushar families participating. The Deputy Commissioner has also directed officials to help parents open bank accounts to ensure digital scholarship payments.
The administration is also working to provide Aadhaar cards to all households and identify land for housing schemes for the community.
Rajiv Kumar, State General Secretary of the Jharkhand Rajya Dehari Mazdoor Union, praised the initiative and ongoing efforts to promote education among Mushar children. He also highlighted that a graduate from the community may soon be engaged as a daily wager in a government office.
