Jamshedpur, September 26: Sona Devi University’s School of Pharmacy observed World Pharmacists Day 2026 with a series of academic, awareness and cultural programmes highlighting the evolving role of pharmacists in healthcare and community service.
Held at the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium on Friday, the programme followed the theme “Empowering Pharmacists for a Healthier Future,” with discussions and activities focused on healthcare awareness, community service, research, innovation, and professional responsibility.
University Founder and Chancellor Prabhakar Singh, Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Braj Mohan Pat Pingua, Registrar Dr. Nit Naina, School of Pharmacy Principal Sudhanshu Shandilya, Chief Guest Dr. Sundar Lal Mardi, In-charge Medical Officer, CHC Kendadih, Special Guest Jitendra Singh Dev, BTT Trainer, CHC Kendadih, faculty members and students attended the programme.
Students showcase pharmacists’ role in healthcare
The programme began with a welcome address and introduction by B.Pharm fifth-semester student Sandeep Singh Dev, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. University authorities also felicitated the guests.
Students used presentations, skits, music and dance to highlight healthcare issues and the responsibilities of pharmacists.
Sandeep Singh Dev made a presentation on the role and responsibilities of pharmacists, following which students took the Pharmacy Oath, pledging to uphold professional integrity, responsibility and service.
School of Pharmacy Principal Sudhanshu Shandilya said pharmacy extends beyond the manufacturing and dispensing of medicines and is closely connected with human life and public health.
He stressed the importance of correct dosage, safe medicine use, awareness of possible side effects and proper guidance to patients. He also encouraged students to pursue continuous learning, research, practical knowledge and skill development beyond examinations and academic degrees.
TB, antimicrobial resistance and drug abuse highlighted
The awareness segment featured a skit on tuberculosis by fifth-semester students, focusing on symptoms, precautions and the importance of timely treatment.
Seventh-semester student Riya Paricha delivered a presentation on antimicrobial resistance, highlighting the challenges associated with the inappropriate and unnecessary use of antimicrobial medicines.
Third-semester students presented a skit on generic medicines, emphasising informed and responsible medicine use, while first-semester students staged a performance on drug abuse, urging young people to adopt healthy lifestyles and stay away from substance abuse.
Experts stress empathy and service
Chief Guest Dr. Sundar Lal Mardi highlighted the role of pharmacists alongside doctors in the healthcare system and urged students to combine scientific knowledge with empathy and sensitivity while dealing with patients.
Special Guest Jitendra Singh Dev stressed the importance of discipline, communication skills and a spirit of service, particularly while working in rural and remote areas.
The programme concluded with cultural performances, including “Gadbad Samachar” and the group dance “Agomoni”, adding a cultural dimension to the World Pharmacists Day observance.
