Dhanbad, June 10: IIT (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad will launch a 12-week NPTEL course on Earthquake Seismology, scheduled to run from July 21 to October 10, 2025.

An IIT ISM official informed that the course will be conducted by Prof. Mohit Kumar Agarwal, Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Geophysics at IIT ISM.

The NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) platform is a joint initiative of seven Indian IITs and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), supported by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The objective of the course is to equip students and professionals with an in-depth understanding of earthquake phenomena through the lens of modern seismology.

“This course is designed for students and professionals from fields such as geophysics, geology, mineralogy, tectonics, planetary science, and earthquake engineering. It will explore the principles of seismology—the study of earthquakes and the propagation of elastic waves through the Earth,” the official said.

The course will integrate concepts from physics, mathematics, and geology to provide a comprehensive understanding of the Earth’s interior and its dynamic processes.
