Ranchi, May 25: Jharkhand has recorded a stronger mining revenue position compared to neighbouring Odisha and Chhattisgarh, officials informed Chief Minister Hemant Soren during a high-level review meeting of the Finance and Commercial Taxes Department held at the Jharkhand Secretariat on Monday.

According to officials, the growth in mining revenue has been achieved through systematic mineral resource management, transparent policy measures, and improved monitoring mechanisms in the state. Expressing satisfaction over the performance, the Chief Minister directed officials to sustain the momentum and further strengthen transparency in the mining sector while taking strict action against illegal mining activities.
The meeting focused on the state’s financial condition, revenue collection, implementation of budget provisions, and progress of various departmental schemes and development projects. Hemant Soren instructed officials to regularly review progress and ensure the timely achievement of revenue and development targets.

Focus on Budget Management and Revenue Growth
During the review of the Finance Department, discussions were held on budget estimates, establishment expenditure, capital receipts, and grants received from the Central Government. Officials also presented updates on expenditure trends, implementation of schemes, and challenges affecting execution.
The Chief Minister stressed effective budget management and proper utilisation of financial resources to accelerate development works and improve governance efficiency.
Technology and Transparency in Governance
Hemant Soren also directed departments to implement biometric systems and technology-based monitoring mechanisms to improve transparency, accountability, and administrative efficiency. He emphasised better inter-departmental coordination for faster implementation of government schemes.
Commercial Taxes Department Review
A separate review of the Commercial Taxes Department focused on GST compliance, tax collection, and revenue enhancement measures. Officials discussed monitoring and enforcement of GST, VAT, Professional Tax, and other state taxes, along with steps to curb tax evasion through greater use of technology.
The meeting was attended by Departmental Minister Radha Krishna Kishore, Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar, Development Commissioner Ajay Kumar Singh, Finance Secretary Prashant Kumar, Commercial Taxes Secretary Amit Kumar, and other senior officials.
