PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Dec 17: Thieves carried out a major burglary at a Tata Steel residential quarter on KPS Road under the Burmamines Police Station area, making away with jewellery worth nearly Rs 3.5 lakh and Rs 12,000 in cash.

The incident occurred at Quarter No. 56, owned by Tata Steel employee Ramchandra Das, late on Tuesday evening.

Das currently resides with his family in Kadma, while his father and aunt were staying at the Burmamines quarter.

According to information, the elderly residents had locked the quarter and gone to a nearby house—Quarter No. 54—to watch television.

Taking advantage of the house being unoccupied, the burglars allegedly scaled the rear wall, broke open the grill lock, and headed straight to the almirah, from where they stole gold and silver ornaments along with cash.

When the occupants returned later in the evening, they found the lock broken and the almirah open, with household items scattered inside.

The family immediately informed relatives and alerted the police.

On receiving the information, police reached the spot, inspected the premises, and began questioning local residents.

A case has been registered against unknown persons, and CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being examined.

Police officials said efforts are on to identify and arrest the culprits at the earliest.
