Dhanbad, Sept 28: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Dhanbad team arrested the manager of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), Praveen Kumar Mishra, at his official residence in Shyampur B Colliery, located approximately 39 km from Dhanbad district headquarters. The arrest took place late Friday evening around 9 PM.

The CBI conducted the operation following a complaint regarding Mishra’s alleged demand for a bribe. During the raid, they apprehended both Mishra and office clerk Gaur Rawani while they were accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 in exchange for a preferred posting.

Following the search of Mishra’s residence, the CBI took him to the ECL guest house in the Mugma Area for further interrogation, which continued into Saturday morning.

The action was initiated based on a complaint from colliery staff member Md. Salim, who had been transferred from Hariyajam Colliery to Shyampur B Colliery. Salim applied for a position in the Magazine Department as a clerk, but Mishra allegedly demanded ₹20,000 for this preferred placement.

After reporting the incident to the CBI Dhanbad office, officials set a trap and sent Salim to Mishra’s residence with the bribe money on Friday evening around 9 PM. Clerk Gaur Rawani was also present at the manager’s residence when the money was exchanged, leading to the immediate arrest of both individuals.
