Dhanbad, Feb 20: The Dhanbad Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has handed over two rescued tribal children to officials from their respective home districts, Gumla and Lohardagga, under the supervision of the Child Protection Department.

Rescued children reunited with home districts

Dhanbad CWC Chairman Uttam Mukherjee stated that the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) had rescued the two tribal girls belonging to Gumla and Lohardagga during a special campaign. Both girls had been residing at Dhanbad Girls’ Home since their rescue.

Today, Child Protection Department officials Madan Mohan Mahtha and Anita Pandit formally handed them over to the CWCs of Gumla and Lohardagga, ensuring their safe return.

Investigation into human trafficking allegations

CWC Chairman Uttam Mukherjee highlighted that Sub Judge-cum-DLSA Secretary Rakesh Roshan played a crucial role in the rescue and rehabilitation of both girls. One of the rescued girls disclosed the name of a woman police inspector allegedly involved in her trafficking.

Following this revelation, CWC directed the police to launch an investigation and take necessary action against the accused officer. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) H.P. Janardhan took cognizance of the allegation and discussed the matter with CWC officials.

Gumla CWC conducted an independent probe and confirmed the involvement of a police officer in the trafficking case.

Meanwhile, the second rescued girl, who belonged to Lohardagga, was taken back to her home district by CWC Lohardagga member Manorma Minj after consulting Dhanbad CWC Chairman Uttam Mukherjee.
