Daltonganj, Dec 28: Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) is facing a severe faculty shortage, drastically impacting its operations and efficiency.
One of the most alarming concerns is the Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT) department, a critical division that has been without faculty for the past five years.
Dr. Prof. P.N. Mahto, Principal of MMCH Daltonganj, emphasised the seriousness of the situation, saying, “A medical college hospital is most recognized by its medicine department. However, here, we are facing a 60% deficiency in this department.”

The Medicine department is particularly affected, as it has no professor at present. The department is functioning with only one assistant professor and one associate professor.
Of the 41 sanctioned positions for assistant professors, only 11 are filled. Similarly, 11 out of the 27 sanctioned associate professor positions are vacant. The shortage extends to the professor-level posts, where only 4 out of the 17 sanctioned positions are filled, leaving a gap of 13.
This dire faculty shortage is posing serious challenges to both the quality of medical education and the healthcare services provided by MMCH.
