Daltonganj, Aug 7: Who is it? Don. The most nerve-wracking dialogues were in the blockbuster film Don starring Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman and others.

Back here in Jharkhand, Palamu police are making almost a replication of it albeit with force of law.

It is reaching the dwellings of the accused at the wee hours of the night. Sometimes hours before midnight too.

‘It’s the police’

A knock at the door and a loud voice, ‘It’s the police’. The accused knows his time is over. Police take the accused with it and the court remands him in judicial custody.

SP Reeshma Ramesan agreed. “Our officials are having their catches either at wee hours of night or hours before midnight. We avoid having our catches in the day. It may turn out to be any noisy affair,” she added.

38 accused have so far been caught and jailed in 72 hours in Palamu under a drive launched pan Jharkhand.

DGP orders crackdown on criminals

DGP Incharge Jharkhand Anurag Gupta has ordered a crackdown on accused/ criminals. The DGP is a man of action who wants every cop to do right and with visible signs of good behaviour.

IG Palamu zone N K Singh is out here to translate the DGP’s order in action. 38 arrests in 72 hours beginning August 4 till August 6.

38 arrested in 72 hours

All the 38 caught are understandably males. A few had NBWs (non-bailable warrants) against them.  Few had bouches of excise act. One or two of the NDPS acts and IT acts.  It’s GR (general registered) cases that outnumber police station cases.

Again, the 38 catches so far have a cocktail of sections of the criminal justice. It consists of the old IPC and new BNS.

There is no complaint so far about any excesses or high handedness or violation of human rights by the police in the course of its drive here.

However, common people want an effective investigation. Clinically precise investigation is an exception. It’s more of a stereo-typed investigation as a result cases of crimes remain uncracked for weeks and months. The Palamu police has its list of uncracked cases lying over weeks and months.

PTR armed with trained female Belgian Malinois

It’s not known as to why police here are not taking a cue from the Palamu Tiger Reserve which is now armed with a trained female Belgian Malinois as this female canine is proving its mettle worth having it here.

Christened Honey this female canine has had 6 months of rigorous training at ITBP Panchkula for which the PTR sent its one forest guard and one tracker to have the training there along with Honey under the K9 canine project of Traffic India at the base of the ITBP Panchkula, said the deputy director of the north division of the PTR, P K Jena.

The sniffing dog of the Palamu police sniffs less and sleeps more. It was pressed in a multi-lakh burglary case of a high-profile BJP lady politician where this dog took a walk for a few meters only to stand lost and directionless.
