Daltonganj, July 22: The Palamu police are vigilant about the Kanwar Yatra.

The recent happenings in two states, UP and Uttarakhand, are ‘viral in a manner where inflammation is more evident.’

SP Reeshma Ramesan said, “This Yatra has begun. It’s the first Somwari today. Our cops are on patrol of water bodies in their respective police station limits.”

Chowkidars to keep tab on water bodies

When reminded that Palamu has a history of water bodies getting defiled during the Chhath and this Kanwar Yatra in the past and so what pre-emptive measures are to which SP said, “All officers in charge of the police stations have been directed to ask Chowkidars to keep a tab of the water bodies falling in their beat and in the event of anything found other than normal to be reported to the police station at once.”

Kanwar Yatra in Palamu is in two modes – on foot and by four-wheelers.

Yatra on foot is localised. It is within a 2 to 3-km radius.

However, the vehicular Yatra is long. Kanwariyas of Palamu converges to the GT road.

Strict watch on vehicular speed

Reeshma Ramesan said we have asked the police to keep a strict watch on the speed.

About spilling over to Gaya side from Manatu Chak, Reeshma Ramesan said there is a route but it’s in a poor state and further it trickles as there is no rush to vehicles.

Reminded that young girls and boys are found in good numbers in Kanwar Yatra so has the Palamu police enough of lady cops or officials.

Palamu has 3 Mahila thanas

The SP said, “We have. Our bordering police station Harihurganj with Bihar has a lady sub inspector of police. Besides, Palamu has 3 Mahila thanas. So, there is no issue.”

Kanwar Yatra is taken out day and night. A vehicle like 407 is preferred. Bus too goes.

There is a police bandobast for Yatra taken out during the day or at night, reminded Reeshma Ramesan.

Yatras coming out from Panki, Manatu, and Tarhassi end are ‘coated with religious vigour more than other locations’ to which the SP said, “We are alert. We are watchful. There will be all along a peaceful Yatra for the whole month.”
