Dhanbad, June 14: Iron scrap trader Jamal Mia (55) committed suicide in his house allegedly rattled by frequent extortion demands in the Sushnileba area under the Barbadda police station, around 13 km away from the district headquarters.

A Barbadda police station official said that the incident was reported on Thursday evening. Jamal Mia hanged himself with a ceiling fan after locking the room from inside. Family members immediately got him admitted to Asarfi Hospital where the doctor declared him dead.

Suicide note mentions two extortionists

Govindpur Police Inspector Saraswati Minj getting information reached the spot and recovered a suicide note of Jamal Mia from the room.

In a suicidal note, Jamal Mia has also written the names of two persons who allegedly demanded extortion and threatened dire consequences.

Jamal Mia had run an iron scrap business in partnership with Goden of Bhuli Township and Jitu Saw of Dhansar. But later he separated from them and ran his own business.

The grandson of Jamal Mia said he returned house in the late afternoon and locked his room from the inside. When Jamal Mia did not come out after a long time, family members knocked on the door. When he did not open, his grandson entered the room through the roof and found him hanging.

The Barbadda police official said that an FIR would be lodged after proper investigation.
