Jamshedpur, March 25: The Seraikela Block Development Office (BDO) office was locked following an order passed by the court of district civil judge, Ashish Agarwal on Tuesday.

Apart from locking the BDO office, the court has ordered to auction the movable and immovable properties of the office, leading the court’s Nazir to seize the properties.

MNREGA irregularity complaint

The court passed the orders in sequel to a misappropriation complaint lodged by a welfare scheme beneficiary Chandmoni Majhian in 2024. The matter was related to misappropriation and irregularities meted out to the complainant in the year 2005-06 in connection with the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act popularly known as MNREGA.

During the period of 2005-06, the victim had availed the opportunity of working under MNREGA, but the then BDO had not paid the beneficiary a total amount of Rs 73,000 under the scheme, causing her to run from pillar to post for her due.

Moreover, the court of the civil judge, Ashish Agarwal passed harsh order at a time when a team of NITI Aayog is visiting the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district.

Following the civil court’s order, the Nazir Gopal Kumar has seized the furniture, including the table, chairs, almirahs and also the BDO’s official vehicle (JH22C-3793) today.

BDO responds to office seizure

The incumbent BDO, Yesmita Singh confirmed about locking up of her office and confiscation of all properties following a court order but did not elaborate on the matter.

“At present, a team of NITI Aayog is at my office though it has been seized in accordance with a court order. I cannot say anything more than this at this juncture,” said the BDO, Seraikela, Yesmita Singh while responding to the queries by The Jharkhand Story.
