Jamshedpur, June 9: Residents of Shiv Singh Bagan on Agrico Road No. 9 in Jamshedpur are facing severe inconvenience and health risks due to negligence and violations of building construction norms in front of Plot No. 49/A, located opposite the Sidhgora police station.

The construction site, left unattended after excavation nearly two months ago, has turned into a breeding ground for mosquitoes and a serious health hazard.

Locals allege that despite repeated appeals to the plot owner and construction team to clear the accumulated water, no action has been taken. The stagnant water, now covered with algae, has led to a surge in the mosquito population and rising concern about vector-borne diseases.

“There is a massive increase in mosquitoes, and now even rodents are being seen around. This is not just a nuisance; it’s a serious threat to public health,” said one of the residents.

The open plot lies dangerously close to where children often play, raising concerns about accidental falls and injuries. With the threat of COVID-19 resurgence still looming, residents fear the unhygienic conditions could trigger an outbreak of infections such as dengue and malaria.

Residents have urged the local administration and Tata Steel UISL to take immediate steps to address the issue by draining the stagnant water, spraying insecticides, and fencing the area. They warned that if no action is taken soon, the health risk will intensify, and they may resort to a collective protest in front of the administrative offices.

Despite the gravity of the situation, no inspection has yet been conducted by JUSCO or the Health Department. Locals are now questioning whether authorities are waiting for a disaster to act.
