During the arrest, the police seized the chopper used in the murder along with two two-wheelers, including a Scooty.

Chandil Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Arvind Binha revealed that business rivalry between Shivam and Rahul was the primary motive behind the crime.

“Rahul and Shivam’s brother both ran tea stalls along Marine Drive near River Meet and often quarreled over customer turnout. This rivalry led to frequent arguments, with Shivam occasionally stepping in to support his brother,” said the SDPO while addressing reporters on Friday evening.

How the Murder Was Executed

According to the SDPO, Rahul befriended Shivam a few days ago and invited him to drink alcohol in Kapali.

“Shivam received a call from Rahul inviting him for drinks at Kamargora. Once there, Rahul and his friend Mohammed Ashif made him consume excessive liquor. When Shivam became almost unconscious due to intoxication, Rahul used a chopper to slit his throat,” narrated the SDPO.

Although Ashif did not actively participate in the murder, he was aware of Rahul’s plan and remained silent, indirectly assisting in its execution.

Quick Police Action

The victim’s family had expressed suspicion about Rahul’s involvement, which helped the police crack the case swiftly. The police also recovered blood-stained clothes from both Rahul and Ashif.

Shivam Singh (20), a resident of Sonari Gwala Bustee, was found murdered at Kamargora in Kapali on Thursday morning.
