Daltonganj, November 26: Yodh Singh Namdhari Mahila College (YSNM), Daltonganj, observed Constitution Day on Wednesday with great enthusiasm and active participation from students and staff.

Vice Chancellor of Nilamber-Pitamber University, Dr. Prof. Dinesh Kumar Singh, had instructed Dean Student Welfare Dr. S. K. Pandey and Registrar Dr. Nafis Ahmad to ensure that the university and all its colleges observe Constitution Day with full solemnity. Both officers ensured that the instructions were followed seriously across the institutions.

The event at YSNM College was chaired by Dr. Mohini Gupta, the professor-in-charge. Teachers and staff attended in large numbers.
There was clear enthusiasm among students—especially the girls—towards understanding the Constitution. The Political Science Department played a central role in organising the programme.

Students Share Views on Reservation Policy

After the event, The Jharkhand Story Network correspondent spoke to several students on their way home. Some students shared personal views regarding the reservation policy, expressing concern that benefits do not always reach the most deserving.

One girl said:
“We wish the Union government should take a serious look at the reservation policy and quota.”

Another student added:
“I should not be taken as an anti-reservation banner holder. But I feel that rich and well-settled reserved community families enjoy the benefits, while those who genuinely deserve them are left out.”

A third girl remarked:
“Jharkhand has seen many SC and ST officers who have led state civil and police administrations. Do their wards still need reservation? To me, the quota should be for those who are still denied and deprived.”

Dalit Student Raises Concern About Social Equality

A Dalit boy student, who did not wish to be named, said near the GLA College gate:
“The Constitution gives the right to equality. But see when a Dalit dulha rides a horse in marriage, he is often stopped or thrashed. Why?”

Students Praise the Indian Constitution

Many voices at the event praised India’s Constitution for reducing social inequalities.
Students noted that women have gained more strength because of constitutional rights and protections.

Several participants described India’s Constitution as one of the best among democracies, and said it is a matter of national pride that many countries admire it.
