Dhanbad, Nov 18: Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Electoral Officer Madhvi Mishra has issued a directive to all public and private institutions in Dhanbad to grant a paid holiday on November 20, in light of the upcoming assembly elections.

In her directive, the DC emphasized that voting is scheduled for all assembly constituencies in Dhanbad on November 20. Under Section 135 (B) of the Representation of People Act, 1951, employees working in business establishments, industrial sectors, or any other institution are entitled to time off to cast their votes in Lok Sabha or state assembly elections.

“So, give leave with pay to such persons on November 20 so that they can cast their votes,” the DC stated.

The directive applies to various public and private establishments, including Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), Maithon Power Limited (MPL), ACC Limited Sindri, Hindustan Urvarak Rasayan Limited (HURL), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Tata Steel Collieries, and others.

Additionally, Madhvi Mishra has urged public and private sector institutions to encourage their workers to vote in order to achieve the goal of 100% voter participation. At the same time, she warned that any institution failing to grant a paid holiday on November 20 would face action under the Representation of People Act.
