Jamshedpur, August 30: The Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, has issued an alert for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across Jharkhand in the coming days, even as the state has already received 29% surplus rainfall during the ongoing monsoon season.

According to the forecast, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over central parts of Jharkhand on August 30.
On August 31, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds with speeds of 30–40 kmph are expected at isolated places.

Cloudy skies with intermittent spells of rain or thundershowers are also predicted for September 1 and 2.

Synoptic Situation
The well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast persisted. The associated cyclonic circulation extended up to 7.6 Km above mean sea level, tilting southwestwards with height.
The system is likely to move slowly west-northwestwards across Odisha during the next 24 hours.
The monsoon trough currently passes through Bikaner, Banasthali, Damoh, Pendra Road, the centre of the low-pressure area, and extends southeastward into the east-central Bay of Bengal.
Current Weather Conditions in Jharkhand
Monsoon activity remained weak over the state during the past two days with only light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms at isolated places.
District-wise Rainfall Statistics (01 June – 29 August)
Jharkhand has received 1011.3 mm of actual rainfall against the normal 786.5 mm, recording a 29% surplus.
Out of 24 districts, most have reported normal to excess rainfall.
Excess Rainfall Districts: Ranchi (+60%), Seraikela-Kharsawan (+69%), Latehar (+53%), Chatra (+26%), Bokaro (+28%), Dumka (+29%), West Singhbhum (+38%), Dhanbad (+45%), East Singhbhum (+77%).
Normal Rainfall Districts: Deoghar (-7%), Garhwa (-5%), Giridih (-5%), Godda (-3%), Ramgarh (+25%), Sahibganj (+12%).
Deficient Rainfall Districts: Hazaribagh (-8%), Lohardaga (-26%), Pakur (-16%).
The Meteorological Centre has urged residents to stay alert for sudden thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in the coming days.
