Welspun World proposes ₹300 cr investment in Jharkhand at Davos

Davos / Ranchi, January 21: Jharkhand received a fresh investment boost at the World Economic Forum in Davos as Welspun World expressed strong interest in expanding its presence in the state, including a proposed ₹300 crore investment in the plastics manufacturing sector.

A high-level meeting was held between Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Welspun World Founder and Chairman B.K. Goenka, during which the company proposed investing around ₹300 crore in Jharkhand’s plastics sector.

Interest in Plastic Park at Deoghar

During the discussions, the state delegation presented details of the proposed Plastic Park at Deoghar along with information on Jharkhand’s industrial infrastructure, policy support, and ease-of-doing-business framework.

Welspun World showed particular interest in exploring PVC-based plastics manufacturing opportunities within the proposed cluster.

Company Team to Visit Jharkhand

To take the proposal forward, Welspun World is expected to send a technical and leadership team to Jharkhand for site visits, feasibility studies, and detailed project assessments.

Explores Critical Minerals and Logistics

Apart from plastics, Welspun World also expressed interest in opportunities related to critical minerals and logistics.

The state delegation shared information on the proposed logistics park at Dhanbad and the availability of warehousing and storage infrastructure along key industrial corridors. Both sides agreed to continue engagement to convert discussions into concrete investment plans.

Officials said the proposed investments could lead to job creation, value addition, and long-term economic growth. The meeting was described as a step forward in Jharkhand’s strategy to attract diversified and sustainable industrial investment.
