Jamshedpur, June 20: A 27-year-old youth was shot dead by a gang of four assailants at Kalpanapuri under the Adityapur thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Wednesday night.

Identified as Vivek Singh, the youth was sitting at a field close to Kalpanapuri Pahadi at around 8.30 pm when four youths appeared before him.

Shot three times

At the sight of the four, the youth started running for safety, but the attackers chased him and having intercepted him a little distance away, one them pumped three shots into the victim, causing him to die on the spot.

The victim was a resident of Kalpanapuri itself and after the gunshot murder took place, the locality which is posh area came under the grip of sensation.

Victim’s family, locals didn’t allow police to seize the body

Soon after the incident, a police party had reached the spot and tried to take the body in its custody. But the bereaved family members and aggrieved local residents had not allowed the police party to seize the body, declaring that the police will have to arrest the assailants before doing any formality.

The Adityapur thana OC, NK Singh said the murder might have taken place due to enmity.

“We are trying our best to detect the assailants. We expect the case will be solved shortly, ” said the OC while talking to The Jharkhand Story.

Second murder in Adityapur within fortnight

It may be mentioned here that this was the second murder and as many firing incidents to have taken place in Adityapur during the past fortnight.

Though such grievous criminal incidents continue to take place there in the densely- populated Adityapur, but the police are hardly able to curb them.

Ever since the technology like CCTV camera and mobile phone surveillance system came into being, the police are getting increasingly lethargic, considering that if any crime takes they will be able to detect the cases sooner or later.
