Dhanbad, Aug 4: Sanjiv Jha of Prabhat Khabar and Ajay Prasad of Nav Pradesh were elected president and general secretary respectively of Dhanbad Press Club for 2024-27 sessions.
In the election which was held on Sunday and counting concluded in the late evening Sanjiv Jha, one of the founder members of Press Club, got the highest votes 147 for the post of president while his nearest challenger Ramji Yadav of Dainik Jagran and Vinod Tripathi of Hindi daily Awaz were polled 64 and 6 respectively.
Outgoing committee president Ashok Kumar of Prabhat Khabar, vice-president Ravikant Jha, and general secretary Gangesh Gunjan of Hindustan did not contest the poll this time. However, 8 office bearers of the previous committee were defeated in the election.

Senior vice-president
Shashi Bhushan Ray of Dainik Jagran (85) became the new senior vice president of the Press club. Two other candidates Abhishek Singh (72) and Arun Barnbal (62) got votes.
Vice-presidents
For the posts of five vice-presidents 12 candidates were in the fray in which Pratik Popat ( 141), Balwant Kumar, and Amar Prasad (117 votes each). Surendra Yadav (113) and Sharad Chandra (94) were declared winners.
General Secretary
Three candidates were in the race for the post of general secretary with Ajay Prasad getting the highest 94 votes leaving Ashish Ambastha of Dainik Jagran (85) and Dilip Kumar (39) behind.
Secretary
For five posts of secretary total of nine candidates were in the race in which Mohan Gope of Dainik Jagran got the highest 129 votes followed by Sanjay Chourasia (128), Navin Ray (125), Ram Murti Pathak (113) Chandan Pal of Times of India (109).
Treasurer
For one post of treasurer, two candidates were in the fray in which Manoj Sharma of Awaz (110) defeated Lalkhan Lal of Hindustan (109) by one vote.
Executive members
Seventeen candidates were in the race for seven posts of executive members. First time in the annals of Dhanbad Press Club two female journalists were elected. Vikky Prasad got (140) the highest number of votes followed by Shambhavi Singh (107), Roshan Kumar Sinha ( 104), Vipin Kumar Rajak (102), Gopal Prasad (100), Shilpa Singh (96), Kanhaiya Pandey(92).
Senior lawyer cum journalist Abhay Bhatt, Vijay Pathak, Vijay Kumar, Prasant Bannerji and Prabhakar Kumar conducted the election.
