Dhanbad, May 29: The Dhanbad District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has rescued 10 orphaned children from the Naxal-affected East Tundi block of the district under the ambitious Project SAATHI, aimed at rehabilitation and welfare of destitute children.

Sub-Judge and DLSA Secretary Mayank Tushar Topno confirmed that all the rescued minors are orphans. “With the help of government departments and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), these children will be brought under the scholarship scheme. Their identities are currently being verified,” he said.

Under this initiative, each rescued child will receive a government scholarship of ₹4,000 per month until they attain adulthood, to support their education.

Topno further stated that the DLSA team, as part of Project SAATHI initiated by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), is actively identifying destitute children across all blocks and shelter homes in the district to bring them under government welfare schemes.

“On-the-spot documentation, including Aadhaar and ration cards, is also being arranged to ensure smooth rehabilitation,” he added.

In compliance with NALSA’s directive, Dhanbad’s Principal District and Sessions Judge and DLSA Chairman, Virendra Kumar Tiwari, constituted a team last week to implement Project SAATHI and ensure that vulnerable children are identified and provided with necessary support.
