Daltonganj, July 11: Amidst intermittent rains, World Population Day was observed in the premises of the diagnostic centre of the MMCH Daltonganj on Friday.
SDM Sadar Sulochana Meena, IAS officer, represented the civil administration while the health department’s battery of officers, namely principal of the MMCH Dr P N Mahto, Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar Sriwastaw, Medical Superintendent Dr Ajay Kumar and District Immunisation Officer Dr S K Ravi graced the function.
The gathering, mostly of the Health Department Sahiyas, was modest. The big consolation was that the shamiyana (canopy) was robust, as despite the downpours, there was no rainwater dropping on the head of the gathering of people.
Everyone spoke a few words but meaningful. SDM Sadar Sulochana Meena said a very homely thing that the desire for a son leads to the multiplication of birth after birth of a girl child, and the family swells with the population.

Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar Sriwastaw, who is known for making lengthy speech, was very cryptic when he said, “It’s the women who take the load of the family planning, but males just talk about it.”
“Imagine it’s a target of just 74 male sterilisations for the whole of the year 2025. I believe everyone knows why such a petty target of vasectomy of males,” added the Civil Surgeon, Dr Anil Kumar Sriwastaw.
Dr S K Ravi said, let there be no misunderstanding or misgiving about male sterilisation as it does not affect the virility or the ego of the person concerned who undergoes vasectomy.
Principal Dr P N Mahto wondered as to how fast the population here is shooting up when the load of the earth hardly permits for it.
Medical superintendent Dr Ajay Kumar gave a vote of thanks.

District Programme Manager P K Sinha, urban DPM Sukhram and Hospital Manager Sunit Srivastav most intelligently succeeded in keeping themselves dry despite the rains.
The programme on World Population Day here was a reminder that it’s the duty of everyone to limit the number of members of the family instead of making the family a crowd.
