THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

Daltonganj, August 8: Latehar district police and Shashstra Seema Bal (SSB) on Thursday held a grand gala finale of a football match between two rural football teams at a far off, difficult and highly vulnerable location, Jamudih, on the border of Chhattisgarh.

It was a community policing under the civic action plan. Reaching Jamudeeh was no easy. It was as adventurous and feverish as the grand finale of the football match.

The joint team of Latehar district police and SSB had to negotiate around 30 km of surface transport on the soil of Chhattisgarh to reach Jharkhand’s Mahuadanr’s Jamudih.

Samri Paath police station in Chhattisgarh is a little over 10 km away from Jharkhand’s Mahuadanr’s Jamudih. The programme drew the security forces of Chhattisgarh there too.

Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav told this correspondent late Thursday night, “We had to detour. We held a programme. It’s not only kicks and goals. It’s far more than that. It’s our bonding with the common people.”

Such a programme wins hearts on both sides. It renews trust and confidence in each other. The crowd that watched the programme was overwhelming, added Gaurav.

Very few such community policing shows have ever held a facility for cattle, as the SSB did try to have a modest facility for farmers’ cattle, ailing or otherwise.

There was something for every age group like pen, pencil, notebook, bag, water bottle for students, sports kit, T shirts, shoes and socks for players, dhoti, saree and gamcha for the elderly men and women etc. There was a medical assistance desk too for common seasonal illnesses.

A food feature that goes with community policing show, Khichri was here too for one and all who enjoyed it most.
