Daltonganj, August 13: The four-year-old male tiger popularly known as Silli tiger since it was rescued from a farmer’s house in Silli, has hoodwinked the watch and ward of the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR).

It has on its own slipped out of the soft release centre into the wild of the PTR without being noticed or prevented by the staff of the PTR engaged in its 24/7 watch and monitoring.

The male tiger had spent weeks in the soft release centre where the PTR officials had arranged for its food in sufficient. Cattle were bought for it, said sources.

PTR sources said there was a bout of huge rains last few weeks, which had created some space, which this Silli tiger put to its use and slipped.

There is an SoP (Standard Operating Procedure) for the release of any wildlife from a soft release centre to the wild and the process of the release is to be officially recorded but here in the case of Silli tiger, the PTR staff were badly outwitted by the tiger as it quite silently and surreptitiously escaped from the soft release centre.

PTR sources said the Silli tiger in the soft release centre had ‘fully acclimatised and adapted itself’ and hence its transition from centre to independence is not much to be worried about.

This ‘soft release centre break’ is no jail break type thing, as after all, a tiger has its fundamental right to live in a wild and untamed and uncontrolled environment.

Sources said the PTR rues that it missed the opportunity of reintroducing the rescued male adult tiger into the jungles.
