Ranchi, March 27: Ranchi witnessed political turmoil as BJP leaders staged protests against the killing of party leader Anil Tiger, leading to multiple detentions by the police.

Amid the Ranchi bandh call, security forces took action against the demonstrators, including BJP leader Pratul Shahdeo, who criticized the police for targeting peaceful protesters instead of criminals.

Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth also joined the protests, condemning the law-and-order situation under Hemant Soren’s government.

“Ranchi has turned into a crime capital. The rule of law has collapsed, and this is nothing short of jungle raj. I believe the ‘Yogi’ model should be implemented here,” he asserted, refusing any security cover for himself.

Ranchi SP (City) Raj Kumar Mehta assured that police action was ongoing and that criminals would find no safe haven in the city. He also emphasized efforts to restore normalcy by reopening shops, stating that enforcing a bandh was not a constitutional right.

Anil Tiger, a senior BJP leader, was shot dead in broad daylight on Wednesday near Kanke Chowk, just 25 meters from a police station. The shocking incident triggered strong reactions from party members, who expressed outrage over the deteriorating security situation.

One of the accused in the case, Rohit Verma, has been arrested following an encounter with the police.
